Advanced Digital Signal Processing

ADSP, Fall semester, Master of Computer Engineering and Master of Information Technology

Course:
Professor Dr. Eng. Mihai V. MICEA

Laboratory Workshops:
Lecturer Dr. Eng. Razvan CIOARGA

Objectives:
The course focuses on the study of advanced techniques and algorithms used in digital signal processing.
Theoretical aspects of advanced digital signal processing are described in detail, along with a comprehensive set of applications.
Of key interest are the design and analysis techniques of digital filters, using digital systems in general, and digital signal processors (DSPs) in particular.

Notes:
1. The course is presented using PowerPoint slides and video-projection.
2. Students are provided with the Course Support (Student's Notebook) in printed or electronic format.
3. The laboratory workshops and projects are supported by the DSPLabs Laboratory, equipped with specialized DSP hardware and software applications.

Research Topics in CE and IT

RT, Fall semester, Master of Computer Engineering and Master of Information Technology

Course:
Professor Dr. Eng. Mihai V. MICEA

Objectives:
To present and discuss research papers which have been influential in shaping the field of computer engineering and information technology. The papers address topics essential both to researchers and practitioners.
Students will analyze past and future developments in the field, along with the content and structure of a good research paper. They will gain the ability to make a critical analysis, a clear and consistent presentation, and to participate actively in discussions.
By understanding the foundations of current approaches, the students will build solid reference points towards taking competent future decisions on adopting novel techniques, practices or paradigms.

Notes:
1. The course is presented using PowerPoint slides and video-projection.

Multimedia Systems

SM, 8th semester, 4th year BSc. in Computers

Course:
Professor Dr. Eng. Mihai V. MICEA

Laboratory Workshops:
Lecturer Dr. Eng. Razvan CIOARGA

Objectives:
The focus of the course is to provide a comprehensive set of knowledge on the principles and the basic techniques used in multimedia production. The students will study the main information communication media (such as: text, sound, graphics and image, animation and video), as well as the elements of interactivity and design, required in professional multimedia production.
The students will also gain abilities of using specialized multimedia production hardware and applications.

Notes:
1. The course is taught based on a set of multimedia presentations, with video-projection and audio support.
2. Students are provided with a free Course Support, in electronic format.
3. The laboratory workshops and projects are supported by the DSPLabs Laboratory, equipped with specialized multimedia hardware and software applications.

Signal Acquisition and Conditioning Systems

APNS, 8th semester, 4th year syllabus

Course:
Professor Dr. Eng. Mircea STRATULAT

Laboratory Workshops:
T.Assistant Eng. Dan CHICIUDEAN

Objectives:
The course main goal is to familiarize the students with the operating principles, desing, testing and application integration of data acquisition and conditioning devices.
A detailed description of operational amplifiers, analog multiplexers, sample-and-hold devices, analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters, is given.
Integration of signal acquisition and conditioning devices into compact and efficient DAQ systems and boards, and the design and implementation of signal acquisition applications using DAQ boards, is also emphasized in the course.

Notes:
1. The laboratory workshops are developed on state-of-the-art equipment (lab instrumentation equipment such as digital and late-generation oscilloscopes, programmable signal generators, stabilized power sources, and data acquisition boards).

Digital Telecommunications

TD, 7th semester, 4th year BSc. in Computers

Course:
Professor Dr. Eng. Mihai V. MICEA

Laboratory Workshops:
T.Assistant Eng. Valentin STANGACIU

Objectives:
The course emphasizes on the techniques, equipments and protocols involved in today's digital telecommunications field.
The course describes both the theoretical and applicative aspects regarding the transmission of information, the analog, digital and system standards of telecommunication.
The Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) are described in detail, with practical examples and applications on the Alcatel switching systems.

Notes:
1. The course is presented using PowerPoint slides and video-projection.
2. Students are provided with the Course Support (Student's Notebook) in printed or electronic format.
3. The laboratory workshops and projects are supported by the DSPLabs Laboratory, equipped with specialized hardware and software applications.
